Overview

The Department of Translation Studies offers a BA degree Translation (Arabic-English-Arabic). Students in the Department are equipped with the language competence and skills necessary to meet the demands of the growing translation industry in the UAE and the world. To this end, students are provided with practice-oriented training, with emphasis on special subject areas and discipline-specific terminology, such as necessary in journalism, commerce, literature, law, medicine, and science. Thanks to a newly designed curriculum, students are introduced to major theories and practices in translation. Emphasis is placed on courses that would help students pursue a career in translation in various areas including, but not limited to, television and radio, government offices, foreign embassies, courts, colleges, universities, and other organizations that demand translation skills and services. Our Faculty also train students in effectively and efficiently using the tools which are available to modern translators and interpreters, including word processing, editing, and terminology databases. Through practicum courses, students have the chance to practice their translation, interpreting, and organizational skills before graduating. The Department also offers three language minors in French, German and Korean, and a minor in Business Translation.
