To raise awareness of the importance of reading
The Mass Communication Department of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences organized a workshop on "United Arab Emirates University Read" Project, on Monday, October 24, 2016. The workshop was conducted by the integrated course students under the slogan "We Read Today to Lead Tomorrow", as part of the activities of the Year of Reading, in the presence of a number of faculty members, students of the University, and students of Al- Dhaher Secondary School.
Dr. Badreya Al Jenaibi, Associate Professor at the Department of Mass Communication of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, pointed out that these projects aim to increase awareness of the importance of reading as a key element for building the future, increase the number of readers at the University, and turn student’s negative reading to a positive one.
Dr. Saddik Gohar, Professor of English Literature at the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, delivered a lecture during the workshop titled "Reading between Paper Book and Internet Dominance", which included a comparison between reading in the past and the present, and he answered students' questions about the future of the paper book as e-books are becoming more popular among the current generation, stressing that the paper book will remain a beacon for intellectuals that enlightens their brains in different times.
For his part, Khaled Aref, a student at the Department of Mass Communication, presented
his personal experience, and how reading has contributed to the development of his
character, referring to the importance of specialized reading in the scientific process.
The workshop included an exhibition of a variety of historical books, local and international novels, and collection of poems.
